In short\, there will be a country hoedown to accompany the race. \nIn addition to being well hidden\, The High Lonesome Ranch and its surrounding area isn’t open to riding year-round\, so participants benefit from exclusive access to this secret stash of wild-west gravel. \nTimed from start to finish\, you are still encouraged to take the ride as seriously or as frivolously as you like — the name of the game is doing a big gravel ride with friends new and old. Even those that hammer away at maximum speed will stop to regroup\, taking in the views and the delicious local goodies at the well-stocked feed stations.

DESCRIPTION:High Mountain Gravel\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHigh Mountain Gravel \nCrooked Gravel takes a few cues from an exploratory event the legendary Ron Kiefel put together a decade ago called Crooked Roubaix. Back before gravel bikes were really a thing\, Kiefel and some friends set out on a 95-mile dirt-road adventure from Winter Park up into the high mountains on road bikes. Fast forward to 2025 and we’ve all become part of the exciting world of gravel. \nOur two courses take in the very best of Grand County gravel with long winding climbs through aspen and pine forests and wide open descents under the massive Colorado sky. \nIf nothing worth doing is easy\, then Crooked Gravel is certainly worth doing. Our long route tackles over 5\,000 feet of climbing on gravel\, and our short route is perfect for both beginners and sprinters. All beginning at an elevation of 8\,600 feet. \nCheck the schedule for all of the details for the weekend events! \nAfternoon thunderstorms are a frequent summer occurrence in the Rockies. In order to avoid lightning strikes\, don’t be the tallest object around or stand under tall objects. Move to higher ground in the event of a flash flood. Rain gear can help prevent hypothermia; a drop in body temperature that can happen even in summertime.
