AvidCyclist.com is a community built for everyone who loves the freedom of two wheels. Whether you’re a seasoned racer, a weekend warrior, or just discovering the joy of cycling, you have a place here. Our journey began in 2023 as a simple blog, Colorado Avid Cyclist, founded by Gary Robinson with a vision to celebrate the diverse world of cycling, free from any specific genre or discipline. It was a space for every rider.
A Turning Point, A New Direction
In the spring of 2024, a life-altering event reshaped our purpose. While out on a ride, Gary was struck by a truck from behind. In the aftermath, the driver’s callous response on social media, posting photos of the scene and making slanderous comments, revealed a deep-seated
dehumanization of cyclists. This incident, coupled with the tragic death of another cyclist and the ensuing online vitriol, ignited a new mission.
Gary’s powerful essay, “Somebody’s Husband, Father, Son, and More: The Dehumanization of Cyclists,” went viral, resonating with thousands and sparking a movement. This pivotal moment transformed Colorado Avid Cyclist into a platform for advocacy. We began publishing articles, partnering with events to raise awareness about road violence, and even testifying before the State Senate Judiciary Committee to champion safer roads for all.
From Advocacy to a Nationwide Community
The groundswell of support and the shared passion for cycling safety fueled our growth. In the spring of 2025, we evolved into AvidCyclist.com, a nationwide hub for the cycling community. We’ve since launched a comprehensive nationwide events calendar, a growing directory of over 6,000 cycling-related businesses, and a team of contributors who share their expertise on everything from coaching and maintenance to the best post-ride coffee spots.
Today, AvidCyclist.com is more than just a website; it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community. We are proud to offer a membership program that provides our members with exclusive discounts, early event entries, and special benefits as a thank you for being part of our journey.
We invite you to join us. Share your stories, articles and more. We also invite you to use us to connect with fellow riders, and help us continue to build a world where every cyclist is respected and protected. Welcome to the Avid Cyclist family.
