South Mountain Park/Preserve is one of the largest municipally managed parks in the nation, boasting over 100 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The park is a major cycling destination in Phoenix, featuring a variety of singletrack trails for all skill levels and a scenic roadway, Summit Road, which is closed to motor vehicles on Sundays for "Silent Sunday" cycling events. It is managed by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department.
