About

Transportation Alternatives (TA) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to reclaiming New York City from cars and transforming its streets into safe, sustainable, and equitable places for all. Since its founding in 1973, TA has led the movement for better walking, biking, and public transit through a combination of neighborhood-level grassroots organizing and citywide advocacy. The organization works to push for changes in public policy, street design, enforcement, and resource allocation. Key initiatives include advocating for protected bike lanes, implementing speed safety cameras, and supporting the Families for Safe Streets coalition. TA's mission is to create a city where people can walk, bike, take transit, gather, and thrive, moving away from a car-centric model.
