On May 18, 2025, John Wilkinson was tragically killed in a hit-and-run while riding his red @surlybikes Steamroller, doing what he loved most—cycling. The loss of John’s vibrant spirit is heartbreaking, infuriating, and utterly avoidable. Another cyclist’s name joins a list no one should be on, taken by a reckless, careless, dishonest, degenerate HUMAN…… who fled. There’s no silver lining—only grief for a friend who won’t join us at work, a brother who won’t call back, and a loving partner who won’t return from his Sunday ride. John’s passion for gravel biking, his infectious energy live on at CyclErie. We’ll miss you forever.
In memory of John, there will be a group ride Sunday morning starting from where he worked, Cyclerie, in Erie, Colorado. The group will ride to the John Wilkinson Memorial Ride starting at US 36 and Flatirons Crossing. Will will also sweep the route back to the shop for any riders who return early. The route is 36 miles (including the memorial ride route) and 1400 ft of elevation gain. Please arrive a few minutes early for a prompt roll out at 8am. Be sure to sign the waiver if this is your first ride with the group.
