Nestled just south of Colorado’s capital city, Castle Rock is a thriving world-class community. With more than 70,000 residents, Castle Rock values its small-Town character, its traditional Downtown core and its regular community events.
The Town’s identity stems not only from the namesake Rock, but also from a scenic natural landscape that surrounds it. There are 87 miles of trails, 50 well-planned parks and more than 6,000 acres of open space for residents and visitors to enjoy, making Castle Rock a regular on Money magazine’s top places to live list.
This community is not a stranger to cycling events in the
past. Until the logistical problems of major highway construction, and re-routing of traffic, Castle Rock was the home of the “Elephant Rock” ride. This, for several years had a downtown criterium the night before as well as the “Sunrise to Sunset” mountain bike relay race. We will get to the latter in a bit.
This past weekend belonged to Rattler Racing as they hosted the “Fandango” at The Philip S Miller Park, or as we locals call it, “The Mac”.

After days of rain, and some snow, the sun came out well before last weekend which brought excellent conditions and some hero dirt for the racers at the trail system that surrounds the Mac. Thanks to the fine folks at the MAC and the town of Castle Rock, the course features plenty of climbing, tricky technical descents, and fast flowy single-track. The spectating on this course is amazing and you the views are excellent.
Those epic view made for the perfect venue for Ryan Muncy, of Ryan Muncy Photography. As you know, we have featured Ryan’s photography for some time, for good reason. He always seems to get the great shots. He is known for coming out before an event to see the best vantage points, and possibilities. That is why he has
been selected to shoot such great events from the Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial, to The Denver Century Ride.
Ryan’s photos can be seen on his site: Ryan Muncy Photography. You can also see other events he has toted his camera to over the last many years.
Castle Rock will not have to wait too long to see Rattler Racing’s presence again, and neither will “The Mac” as they host the Sunrise to Sunset.
To be in a position to carry the legacy of an iconic Colorado race is super exciting for Rattler Racing. Sunrise to Sunset is a classic event that has been around for a long time. Still at Phillip Miller Park in Castle Rock, this course and venue are perfect for 12 hours of mountain bike racing in a team relay format. Bring your friends, teams and BBQ and spend the day with bikes, food, beer and comradery.
Make sure to check out this event on the Rattler Racing site and get a group together and join us for a long and epically fun day!
