Say “Aloha” To Gravel in Hawaii This November

Aloha Gravel was born from a desire to make events in Hawaii to have a greater impact. Many destination events bring people to the islands, but much of the profit leaves with giant event organizers. The local communities, culture, and people don’t always benefit in the way they should. This realization sparked a simple but powerful idea: what if an event could give more than it takes?

At its core, Aloha Gravel is designed to flip that model. Most, if not all, profits are directed back into local charities, ensuring the economic impact stays within the community and supports the people who make the islands so special. Local organizations are at the heart of the event, serving as volunteers and as the direct beneficiaries of the funds raised.

This event is only possible because of deep local support. Through partnerships with Maui Sunriders, Maui Mountain Bike Coalition, and many others in the community, Aloha Gravel has secured land usage and built something that is collaborative, respectful, and rooted in place.

Beyond its purpose, the event is intentionally different from traditional races. Aloha Gravel is rooted in community, not competition. There are no categories, no podiums, and no pressure to perform. It’s about the personal experience, just you, your bike, and the beauty of Maui.

The course itself reflects that philosophy. Riders have 6.5 hours to complete as many laps as they choose on a roughly 7.5 mile loop that blends climbing dirt roads with flowing singletrack. One person might take a single, relaxed lap and soak it all in, while another might push their limits and go for as many laps as possible. The format is approachable, flexible, and intentionally low pressure. The loop design also creates a family friendly environment, allowing riders to alternate time on course while supporting each other from a central hub. And as any perfect gravel event should, when then time runs out, all participants meet at the bottom of the hill and enjoy the company of athletes all over.

The event timing around November is intentional. It invites riders to experience Hawaii not just as a race destination, but as a place to connect with family, explore the island, and engage with the local community in a meaningful way. November is often a time of year when most gravel races are done and it’s time to start thinking about the off season. Kicking off the off season in Hawaii and in a way that’s rooted in giving back is a great option.

The first year proved the concept, with 35 participants and, with support from Lauf Cycles, $7500 was donated to local charities, including organizations like Imua Family Services that directly support Maui families and youth.

Aloha Gravel returns on November 7 on Maui, expanding to a capped field of 100 participants, growing the impact while staying true to its roots: community, connection, and giving back.

Gravel Worlds Foundation

The Gravel Worlds Foundation is the charitable arm of the Gravel Worlds ecosystem, created to formalize and expand a long-standing commitment to giving back through endurance events. Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the foundation exists to empower community and personal growth by supporting biking, running, and fitness initiatives that promote health, inclusivity, and human connection. It brings transparency and structure to the impact Gravel Worlds has always aimed to make, allowing donations and partnerships to be clearly directed and publicly accountable.

At its core, the foundation builds on the grassroots spirit that defined Gravel Worlds from the beginning, where community mattered more than competition. By operating events like Aloha Gravel, Winter Endurance, and others, the foundation channels participation into meaningful impact, supporting local nonprofits, community projects, and initiatives that align with the values of movement, accessibility, and belonging. It also allows for more dynamic giving, enabling support for both immediate needs and long-term projects that strengthen communities connected to the events.

In 2025, The Gravel Worlds Foundation donated $98,000 to charities.

Ultimately, the Gravel Worlds Foundation represents an evolution of the “for the people” mindset that has always driven Gravel Worlds. It ensures that events are not just experiences for participants, but vehicles for positive change, where every mile ridden contributes to something bigger than the ride itself
