GFNY Walnut Creek

Race headquarters, packet pickup, the start, celebratory finish, and post-race festival are held at Shadelands SportsMall. The course begins with 10 exciting miles through Walnut Creek, Concord, and Clayton before entering the remote, winding Morgan Territory Road, featuring steep pitches, oak woodlands, ranches, and a technical descent. Riders then tackle a rolling 15-mile section along the base of Mount Diablo before turning onto Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd for the spectacular 11-mile, 3,300-ft climb to the summit, averaging 5.3% with sections up to 18%. The timed race finishes at the summit, where riders can refuel and enjoy the views before making a non-timed 14-mile descent back to Shadelands SportsMall for the celebratory finish, medals, food, music, photos, and awards. Riders must reach the base of Mount Diablo by 10:00am to continue the climb; those who miss the cutoff are routed back to SportsMall and classified as Medium Route finishers. A climb-only option is also available, starting with the full field and timing the ascent from Athenian School to the summit.
