FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Get Your Gravel On: Gravel Racing in the Borderlands” brings the story of the race to
the big screen

Douglas, AZ — BorderLands Gravel, one of the most distinctive gravel cycling events in the
American Southwest, is heading to the big screen.

A documentary titled “Get Your Gravel On: Gravel Racing in the Borderlands” has been officially
selected for the Nogales International Film Festival, taking place May 13–17, 2026, in the twin
border cities of Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora.

The film will screen on May 16 at 12:30 PM at Oasis Cinema 9 in Nogales, Arizona, as part of
the festival’s Arizona programming block.

The documentary captures the deeper story behind BorderLands Gravel, an event defined by its
remote desert terrain, cultural context, and unique setting along the U.S.–Mexico border. Riders
traverse historic routes like the Geronimo Trail, pedal alongside the border wall, and experience
a landscape shaped by centuries of movement, migration, and shared history.

“This film represents what BorderLands Gravel has always been about,” said race organizer
Mike Miller. “It’s not just about the ride. It’s about the place, the people, and the experience of
being out there.”

The selection is a significant milestone for the event, signaling its growing cultural relevance
beyond the gravel cycling community. As the sport continues to expand, events that offer more
than just competition, those rooted in place, story, and experience, are gaining attention from
broader audiences.

The Nogales International Film Festival is known for its binational approach to storytelling, with
events taking place on both sides of the border. Its signature Film on the Fence program
projects films directly onto the border wall, symbolizing connection through shared narratives.
For BorderLands Gravel, the alignment is natural.

The event itself has become known for highlighting the complexity and beauty of the
borderlands region, offering riders an immersive experience that goes beyond the course. What
began as a vision to create a world-class gravel race in Douglas, Arizona, has quickly evolved
into a platform for storytelling, tourism, and community connection.

The documentary’s selection reinforces a broader trend within cycling: the growing importance
of narrative-driven events that resonate beyond race day.

As BorderLands Gravel continues to grow, this moment represents more than recognition; it
reflects the power of storytelling in shaping how riders, communities, and audiences engage
with cycling events.
